Who We Are

From Our Roots to Now

Martha Decker

Martha Sims Decker was born on April 2, 1928 in Wisconsin and married Sam Decker in 1948. After retiring from her teaching career, Martha devoted her life to working with and rescuing animals. In the 1990s, she played a significant role in establishing the first physical shelter in the Ozaukee County Humane Society, which is now one of the three campuses of the Wisconsin Humane Society.

Martha and Sam moved to Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas in the late 1990s and continued to be actively involved in animal welfare. Martha was a dedicated member of Friends of Horseshoe Bend Animals, volunteering at the animal control and participating in the Spay/Neuter clinics held there. In addition to her passion for animal welfare, Martha was an accomplished artist who specialized in painting animals, particularly horses.

Martha passed away on October 19, 2009. In 2012, the Martha Decker Fund for Animals was established through a bequest from her estate. Today, as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, we continue to honor Martha's legacy by providing spay/neuter funding and improving the lives of animals in Izard, Sharp, and Fulton Counties, as well as surrounding areas.
